A Journey Through Madness and Out the Other Side

Mixed media works by Luiza Urbanik, documenting her personal journey from her years living with Schizophrenia, to her current work. Presented in conjunction with Schizophrenia Week.

Luiza states -
"In 1978 I fell ill with schizophrenia and during my years in hospital and then halfway houses I made many drawings, paintings, ceramic objects and I kept journals. This body of work is a record of the rich but harrowing process of facing my self with the support and love of some special people.
This work has never been seen before, not even by my family. I recently had a successful exhibition of my current work at Mogo Raw Art And Blues and I showed gallery director Steve Fox this hidden work. With his encouragement and that of ANCA gallery, I am taking the step of showing it now, along with my current work, which tells stories about my life as though told through the Ukrainian Icons of my father’s world".
